Examining tefillin for kashrus, to make sure tefillin meet Torah Law, is a service Breslov prides itself in. The mitzvah of tefillin, and the prayers said with it, can be nullified if the tefillin straps, boxes and parchment within are worn from use, damaged or broken. Breslov owner Rabbi William Goldberg is highly skilled in examining and repairing head and arm tefillin boxes and straps.
Tefillin inspections are necessary to make sure they are kosher and not in violation of the prohibition to use a non-kosher tefillin. Breslov provides cursory checks of tefillin at no charge.
It is a custom or “minchag” to review tefillin for repairs twice every seven years though it is wise to do so annually. Tefillin can last a lifetime if properly maintained.
Tefillin need resizing for a variety of reasons, from weight loss to normal stretching that results from use. Some people inherit tefillin that don’t fit. Breslov can resize tefillin to meet your need.
